Question: Radioactive Iodine Treamtent!?
I have a two part question!.!.!.!.
For those who have had radioactive iodine treatment - how did it go, how did you feel, etc!?
Does anyone know if I can be around my pets during the time I am radioactive!? I have a dog and cat!. Cat sleeps with me!.!.!.!.dog sleeps in my room!.

My daughter had the treatment in December 2007!. She felt fine, other than the low iodine diet she was on for a month prior to the treatment!. She was diagnosed with Stage 1 Follicular Carcinoma in September, 2007 at the age of 19!.
I don't know how much you know about the treatment, but it's really interesting!. She was in the hospital for 3 days, including the day of treatment!. They explained the treatment to us and all before we left her!. Her room was covered in paper or plastic, even her phone!. Anything that she brought into the room had to be left at the hospital!. She ate from disposable plates, etc as well!.
She was around us when she came home and was fine!. Our animals were in the room with her as well and have suffered no ill effects!. Just so you know, they won't let you leave the hospital until you are no longer "toxic"!. We did take extra precautions with visitors, etc just because it was during cold/flu season and we didn't want anyone to bring anything else in on her!.

My Grandmother had the treatment and she felt fine while getting it and afterwards!. As for being around your cat and dog, I wouldn't recommend it for about 24 hours!. The doctor told my Grandmother to stay away from small children in the next 24 hours following the treatment so I can assume it would go for small animals too!.
