Any type of steak/meat or harder foods, he has to chew, chew, and chew, because he states when he swallows his food it feels as though it is getting stuck when it reaches half way down his throat!. He did see a specialist and they did x-ray and food test him!. Then ended up giving him meds for reflux issues!. But this is not a reflux issue!. He has been suffering for several years with this!. He is 44 yrs old!. He cannot enjoy his food!. It's as though his throat has constricted in a specific place or something!. Does anyone know what could be causing this!? Answers:
It's good that he's going back next week!. This can be a major problem!. There is a condition where there is a stricture or narrowing of the esophagus (food tube) and a chunk of food can get caught there - thus the Heimlich maneuver!.

One of the problems with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is that the esophagus can be irritated enough that ulcers (sores) lead to scar tissue and narrowing which can cause problems!. I think "Barrett's esophagus" is the name of one of the kinds of narrowing, and can lead to cancer!. So it's very important to do what you can to clear this up!.

From Dorland's Medical dictionary: "Barrett's syndrome is development of abnormal tissue cells of the lower esophagus, often with stricture (narrowing), and rarely with peptic ulcer, due to the presence of columnar-lined epithelium in the esophagus, sometimes containing functional mucous cells, parietal cells, or chief cells, instead of the normal squamous cell epithelium!. It is premalignant and is followed by esophageal adenocarcinoma!. Called also Barrett's esophagus"Www@Answer-Health@Com
