Did anyone have these symptoms and found out they had diabetes?!

Question: Did anyone have these symptoms and found out they had diabetes!?
Diabetes runs in my family!. My grandma had it, but she died January 26, 2008!. My poppie has it and my mom has it too!.

Here are my symptoms:
-Overweight
-A period that lasted 5 weeks but is now over!.
-Lightheaded/dizzy spells!.!.!.!.!.(read below)

In the last two weeks or so of school, I had to rush from my classes which are all over my school due to my schedule!. I knew I was going to be late countless times, so I ran from one side fo my school to the other!. When I got to my destination, my head was very light and I was a bit dizzy!. It hurt so bad, but if I put pressure on it, it dulled!. At times, I couldn't open my eyes!.

-Sharp abdominal pains, stabbing-like
-Pale skin
-Seldom nausea

My mom and I have determined that I have iron deficiancy anemia, which I am taking iron supplements for!. I am just wondering because this was a diabetes scare and my mom thought so too!. She was <-> that close to making a doctor's appointment!. Thank you for your help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
My first inclination was anemia!. Which I assume your doctor is the one that placed you on an iron supplement!.

With diabetes running strongly in your family, and diabetes being linked to genetics, I would urge you to go ahead and get tested for it!. You do have some diabetic symptoms and if caught early you would be able to treat it with the proper diet and exercise!.
But the only way for you to know for sure is to test!. You said your mom has diabetes, so I will assume she has a meter to do her testing!. Have her test you! do a fasting test first thing in the morning!. If you are high, make a doctors appointment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Kinda odd that the two biggest symptoms of diabetes were an add on after you visited webMD!. Alot of your symptoms sound like you could be dehydrated!. Your mom should be making a doctor appointment for you, not self diagnosing and treating!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only way to find out is to go to the Dr!. and get an AC1 blood test!. It tells your blood sugar levels for the past several months!. Don't just assume you have anemia there are many other things to consider!. A blood test is the only safe test!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

from experience I can say you have some symptoms that go along with diabetes, but forget this forum,,,,get to your doctor and have the tests, that's the ONLY safe way to approach this!Www@Answer-Health@Com

My onset of diabetes resulted in:
unquenchable thirst
constant urination
blurred vision
overall fatigue

So I went to the doctor and they ran an A1C and sure enough I was a diabetic!.!.!.insulin dependent from that day forward!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

if your parents are diabetic then see if they will test you for a few days with there meters and write down your results!. two hours after meals!. im about to turn 24 and i just found out i am type 2!. i went to the doctor and i wasnt even there for that reason!. i was sick with the flu for over a week and they did a random test in the office and i was 280 5 hours after i ate!. so needless to say they started there!. i was put on meds and ive lost a little weight since then!. when i was sick i kept getting hot and cold chills and headaches!. that was about it!. i didnt have many of the classic diabeties symtoms which was wierd!. go get tested!. that meds and a better diet will help you feel better!.

it doesnt always have to be genetic either!. im the first in my family with diabeties!. and my mom and brother were recently tested and are fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless!. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes!.

Some diabetes symptoms include:
Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Extreme hunger
Unusual weight loss
Increased fatigue
Irritability
Blurry vision
If you have one or more of these diabetes symptoms, see your doctor right away!.
