IBS possibly more? Only serious inquirers PLEASE!!?!

Question: IBS possibly more!? Only serious inquirers PLEASE!!!?
I was recently diagnosed with IBS!. I have the severe diahrea form of it!. My doctor said when she diagnosed me that she thought there was the possibility of me having Crohns disease or Ulcerative Colitis instead of IBS but she wanted me to watch my syptoms because the testing is intensive and shouldn't go through it unless necessary!. I have been researching both of the above and can't really seem to find what separates them or makes them different from IBS!. Today I was in the car and got that sweaty, cramping, stomach gargly feeling really badly like I normally do!. But when I got home a rushed to the restroom it was different!. It was uncontrollable!. My stomach was cramping very heavily, I was sweating like crazy, I had no control over it!. It was very watery and mucousy as usual but this time after I had finished there was this yellow jelly like substance that followed!. Could this be just a bad case of my IBS or could it be one of the others!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, it's always possible!. Really, I can't understand you're doctor's advice!. The first thing that they do to rule out Crohn's and UC is a colonoscopy, and generally those aren't too bad!. Also, they run bloodwork to see if you have any inflammation going on in your body, and they test your stool to make sure there is no blood!. Actually, you can buy papers that detect blood at a pharmacy--you toss them in the toilet after you go and if there is blood, it will change color (the paper, I mean, not the toilet, lol)

Crohn's and UC are autoimmune diseases, where the immune system freaks out and starts attacking the body!. I wish that no one had ever thought of using "Inflammatory Bowel Disease" to describe them, because the initials sound too much like "Irritable Bowel Syndrome" and they are quite different diseases!. However, some of the symptoms are similar, like diarrhea and mucous!. No one knows if IBS is related to the immune system yet!. Some suspect it is, since so many people with autoimmune diseases have IBS!. IBS doesn't cause any damage to the intestine or digestive tract like Crohn's or UC do!. There are some other differences--like the way Crohn's and UC respond to steroids, but IBS doesn't!. IBS attacks can be brought on by stress, but Crohn's and UC don't seem to flare because of stress (most doctors say, anyway)!.

Your attack sounds exactly like my Crohn's attacks!. Crohn's and UC cause bleeding, too, but mine always start with mucous and then get bloody after some weeks!. And there is that horrible, horrible cramping!. Sometimes I cramp without even needing to go!. That's the worst!

I'd ask for a colonoscopy if I were in your situation!. At the very least, you'd be able to rule out the other diseases and get some peace of mind!. And if you do have IBD, you would be able to get treatment before it gets worse, which it will--if left untreated!.

Until then, Immodium is your new BFF! (as long as you aren't bleeding, that is!.) Also, a heating pad or hot bath helps the cramping some, too!. Many's the time I've had to hop off the toilet, pop Immodium, and hop in the tub until the cramping is easier--it works pretty well!.

I would def ask your doctor!. They thought I had IBS but my symptoms went away after I had my daughter!. They thought my husband had Crohns disease but after all of the testing they decided he did not (never found out what he has)!. But neither of us had the jelly like substance, but yours could be different!. Call your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

UC is usually bloody!. Crohn's is autoimmune and usually pain is localized to the end of your small intestine!. My gf has Crohn's and she has severe problems and has been hospitalized several times!. It attacks young white females starting around 18-25, it usually gets less severe as you get older!. Although many people end up with no colon, aka colectomy!. The overwhelming majority of UC cases can be treated with Antibiotics!. IBS is different and less severe!. I hope you don't have Crohn's or UC!. A colonoscopy is required for a definitive diagnosis!. This relatively invasive procedure can be traumatic for a young woman, but just understand that there are support groups and there is a lot of literature on the subject!.!.!.
