I need advice about lowering blood pressure for a work medical?!

Question: I need advice about lowering blood pressure for a work medical!?
After months of job searching, I maybe offered employment!. The problem is I will have to have a medical in a few weeks because you have to be phisicially fit and sometimes I have high blood pressure!. I was prescribed medication last year but did not take it!.

My dilemer is, if I start taking medication now, will it lower my blood pressure on time!. If it did, would it then show up in the standard blood test they do that I have a health problem and I would not get the job anyway!. I really want this job and it's not that phicially demanding, so what is the best way to go!. I don't know whether to have a chat with my GP!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Blood pressure is highly variable!. If your GP measured your BP to be high consistently over several measurements, you are classed as a hypertensive and should really be taking that medication you were prescribed!.

If you start taking the meds now then yes it will lower your blood pressure in time!. However, you need to go to your GP to discuss this as they will need to be monitoring your BP whilst you're on the med to make sure it is managed correctly!. Also, if you were prescribed the meds a year ago you need to make sure the tablets are not out of date!. If your work asks you if you're on any medication you should tell them- they must ask for a good reason!. No antihypertensives can be detected in standard urine or blood tests!.

An alternative choice is to make some lifestyle changes!. Losing weight, taking up regular exercise and stopping smoking are the 3 main things you can do to permanently decrease your blood pressure without taking any tablets!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to see your G!.P!. a!.s!.a!.p!. before taking any medication your blood pressure readings may have changed and you may need to alter the prescription!. I doubt if blood pressure medication would show in a random blood test but it depends on what they are looking for!. When a blood test is submitted for analysis a form has to be filled in with the specimen, on that form are several boxes that the nurse would tick, i!.e!. cholesterol, diabetes, h!.i!.v!., etc, so it all depends on what they are looking for!. Trouble is, if you are anxious your blood pressure may rise anyway, get along to your G!.P!. for reassurance!. Good luck with it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I suggest you see your GP before considering restarting the blood pressure tablets!. Blood pressure tablets don't show up in blood tests, but some can cause changes in the body salts and therefore need monitoring!.

Your blood pressure shouldn't really affect your chances of getting work, but untreated blood pressure can have long term consequences on your health such as increased risk of strokes and heart disease!.

Alongside the tablets a healthy low fat, low salt diet and exercise are always recommended!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well you should get a BP review from the gp and start taking the medication if its abnormal!.

Also try to eat healthly, do gentle exercise (walking, swimming) etc and keep stress to a minimum (easier said than done)!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Relaxation can also help high blood pressure!. If you have a busy, chaotic lifestyle then putting some time aside that's just for you can help and listen to a hypnosis CD or practise meditation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes definetly go to your GP they are the experts good luck tooWww@Answer-Health@Com
