Answers:
People can live with as little as a fourth of their liver functioning!.
If your friend had several liver lacerations, they often can be repaired!.
The liver has the remarkable ability to heal itself and regenerate new tissue -- as long as the patient is otherwise healthy, and kept well nourished and well hydrated!.
However, if his liver was totally turned to pulp, the end is already in sight!.
If this was his only significant injury, transplant might be possible!. But a blunt trauma significant enough to shatter a liver would likely have caused extensive damage to the spleen, pancrease, intestines, and maybe even the lungs!.
That kind of trauma is not generally suvivable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
