I don't understand why this is ??!

Question: I don't understand why this is !?!?
I took my blood sugar last before going to bed and it was 87 then this morning I took it upon waking--nothing to eat or drink yet and it was 170!. Why is it such a big difference from 9:30 last night and 6:30 this morning when I haven't eaten or drank anything!?!?

It is this way more times then not where it will be lower be going to bed and then higher when I get up in the morning before eating or drinking anything, does anyone else have this and if so do you know why this is or what causes this to happen!? Thanks for your inputWww@Answer-Health@Com

it sounds like you may be experiencing dawn phenomenon!. my mom has the same problem!. even tho she is on the pump, no matter what she does, her early morning blood sugars are always a bit higher than they should be!. dawn phenomenon is not experienced as much in type 2's as it is type 1's, but it's possible!. if you google "dawn phenomenon" you will get a bunch of information, but there's really not much known about it except it's most likely caused by hormone releases in the night time!. 170 is not a completely terrible number as you know, so you may not find it to be that big of a deal, and then just take a little extra insulin when you wake up to bring your sugar down if that's what you and your doctor decide!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is a very common question put by diabetics!. Put simply, your sugars never go to zero, even if you don't eat for a day or two!. This is because your body releases stores from the liver to keep sugars up in fasting states!. 50% of total insulin is made to regulate this release!. However, if you don't make enough insulin, you can get a rise in sugars when you wake up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds as though your medication may need tweeking a little!.
Even if you are fasting (which you are when you are asleep), your blood sugar levels may rise if there is little or no medication on board, or if your body is in a rebound cycle - meaning that it is bouncing between lows and highs!.

Either way, take some readings with you to your diabetes educator or doctor and ask some questions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the way to solve this problem is to drink plenty of water before you go to bed!. This should help lower your blood sugar levels in the morning!. I would also recommend that you go to the doctors as it sounds to me like you have diabetes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

As soon as you eat glucose, it doesn't just BOOM! go into you blood- is has to be broken down and absorbed by the body, whick may take hours- you digest while you sleep

Don't eat close to bedtime!.

Hope this explains itWww@Answer-Health@Com

you said you didnt eat or drink anything!. did you test your blood sugar two hours after you ate to get the 87!? 87 is kinda low before bed!. i know everyone on here says thats great!. but when mines that low before bed i feel funny and have trouble sleeping!. you say you have been type 2 for ten years!. maybe its time for your meds to be adjusted!. the higher numbers could be from the stored up insilin in your body like another person stated above!. i dont know if this will help!. but try eating something small before bed and see what happens!. a glass of milk and a couple gram crackers!. so when you go to bed your body has something in it to break down rather then whats stored up in it!. see if your numbers in the mornings are higher or lower then!. also try drinking water before bed or bring a bottle to bed with you and see if that helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your Pancreas' insulin producing capabilities are in decline, if not non-existent!.!.!.therefore your bodies ability to control blood sugar is at a negative!. Talk to your Endocrinologist about being put on meds or making a change in your current course of treatment!. Water intake and regular exercise are vital!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
