Good grief !.!.!.!. some of the answers on here are driving me insane!

OK !.!.!. there are so many reasons for cough !.!.!.!.

Has your dog been placed in a kennel or has recently stayed with other dogs!? 'Kennel Cough' is the term used and commonly applied to the most prevalent upper respiratory problem in dogs!. The condition is also known as tracheobronchitis!. The disease is common and will infect a very high percentage of dogs in their lifetime!.

If the dog has a good appetite and is alert but suffers only from a recurrent cough, we will often let the disease run its course just as we would with a cold in humans!.

If this continues and the dog loses its appetite !.!.!. you may want to go to the vet !.!.!. its time for a round of antibiotics !.!.!. usually tetracycline !.!.!.!.

There are other respiratory diseases !.!.!.!. and sometimes airway obstruction from twigs and foreign objects !.!.!.!. but these foreign objects can usually lead to poor appetite !.!. due to difficulty swallowing !.!.!.

There are many reason for coughing!. Chronic coughing is a symptom of many lung diseases!. Some of those diseases are:

- Allergies
- Asthma
- Colds
- COPD - Bronchitis
- COPD - Emphysema
- Flu
- Interstitial Lung Disease - this includes Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; Usual interstitial pneumonitis; nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis; s, bronchiolitis obliterans with organizing pneumonia (BOOP); respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease; desquamative interstitial pneumonitis; lymphocytic interstitial pneumonitis and acute interstitial pneumonitis
- Pneumonia
- Tuberculosis (TB)

Steps to stabilize lung function:

1) get your dog to give up smoking if he/she smokes!. Quiting smoking is the most important step in the treatment of lung disease!.
2) have your dog avoid other things that can irritate the lungs, such as aerosol products like hairspray, spray deodorant and spray paint!. He/she should also avoid breathing in dust or chemical fumes!.
3) To protect your dogs lungs, have your dog wear a mask over his/her nose and mouth when using paint, paint remover, varnish or anything else with strong fumes!.
4) Ensure your dog eats a well-balanced diet!. This helps support his/her body and keeps up his/her strength!.

i have two dogs myself and they have a wierd cough all the time!. usually its either because they are excited, tired, or experiencing fatigue!. sometimes it happens when they eat things they shouldnt!. this time of year they do it more often because of the hot weather!. be careful, because often after coughing, they throw up!. i hope my info helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
