There is no sure-fire way to tell!. There are a few tips though:

- the best way to gurantee a condom has been stored properly is if it is your condom and you store it ---so buy your own/get your own condoms and store them in an appropriate way (check the box for more details)

-check the expiry date, if it is expired, use one that isn't!. If you are unwilling or unable to wait for an unexpired condom and are going to have sex, use the expired condom!. You should always use water-based lubricant, but it is a MUST in this case!.

-Be sure and learn how to properly put on a condom!. Most condom failures are actually human error!.

And as an aside, an earlier answerer suggested using a spermicidally-lubed condom!.!.!.!.!.I would suggest NOT using one!. The spermicide used in them (nonoxynol-9) has been shown to increase a person's chance of acquiring HIV should the condom break as the spermicide causes inflammation of the vaginal wall!. Every lube manufacturer and all but one condom manufacturer (at least in Canada) has voluntarily stopped producing them!. Other studies have found no statistical difference in pregnancy protection between a spermicidally lubed condom and a regular waterbased lubed condom!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is near impossible to know ahead of time!. If you are worried about STDs you should have your partner get tested, and if you are worried about pregnancy get on birth control!.

they ONLY way to test a condom is how machinists at the factory test!. They fill them with about a half gallon of water and bounce them up and down over their open palm looking for leaks!.

they check one condom every 20 or so!. The odds are really good if you use a reputable company like trojans!.

condoms usually break during sex due to use, not a pre-existing tear or hole just waiting to rip!.

double them up with a spermicidal lubricant WATER BASED not oil based as they will decintegrate latex, and get on the pill!.

if you can't remember to take the pill everyday try the Mirena IUD or the Nuva Ring!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sometimes the tears are so small you can't even see them!. Its almost impossible to tell!. Just make sure that the condom wasn't left in the heat or isn't old!.!.
