My Scoliosis..will it get better..im worried..?!

Question: My Scoliosis!.!.will it get better!.!.im worried!.!.!?
When i was 13 i was diagnosed with scoliosis!. I was sopposed to get surgery for it, wich is were they insert a long metal rod down your spinal cord, disabiling the vertebrea its attatched to!. I had a 50% chance of death from the procedure!. And chose not to get it!. Now im 17, and it has gotten a lil worse!. I want to know if there is any older people with it, that can tell me what i should expect when i get older!. and if there is any hope in it maybe correcting itself or getting better!. Any answers will be appreciated!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I certainly am not going to say your doctor is wrong, but I am surprised about the "50% chance of death" estimate!. For most fusions, although the chance of death is always there, its usually much less than 50%!.

What is so unusual about your case that the chance of death from surgery is so high!?

Your curve will *not* get better as you age!. In fact, your curve may continue to increase even though you're done growing!. Because of this, your back pain may also increase!. Everyone is unique with scoliosis!. I knew a lady with a 70-degree curve without any pain at all!. Mine was 60 degrees and very painful when I had my fusion!.

Scoliosis surgery for adults (well over 60) is relatively safe and commonly done!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am not an expert on this subject!. I am only a nursing student!. But from what I have learned in pediatrics is that scoliosis is fixed primarily in childhood and doing so in adulthood is very difficult or impossible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
