What can I do to keep from atrial flutters?!

Question: What can I do to keep from atrial flutters!?
I am a 49 y/o female!. In December, I had a defibbrillator / pacemaker implanted!. Last of April, It sent 9 shocks off in 1 hour!. Everytime i have had any problems, it had been when I was resting, watching tv or even using the bathroom!. Now I am scared to do anything because I don't know what might set it off!.It is a big mental problem for me, to the point that I have my mother stay with me while my husband works!. I don't know what to do!. If there is anyone who has had the same , please help me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to prevent atrial flutter!. It does sound like the defibrillator/pacemaker is not set correctly unless you are reaching heart rates over 180 with the flutter!. Yes amiodarone is a nasty drug and you shouldnt want to stay on it that long!. And as for the ablation, it is no worse a procedure than having the defib placed!. Actually it is less invasive!. They go through a groin catheter and ablate (either burn or kill with alcohol the cells that are responsible for causing the flutter)!. Either way, talk to your doctor because the previous answerer was right, they usually dont put in an defib for things other than v-fib or v-tachWww@Answer-Health@Com

Well I havent, but congestive heart failure among other things are usually caused by high cholesterol, so usually try to keep your heart rate down(dont overexert yourself) and eat healthy, even so call your doctor and let him know your worries!.

And btw that doesnt have anything to do with your atrium, you SA node probably failed(pacemaker of the heart) and your AV node took over(which isnt as fast), so whats in you is supposed to replace your SA node!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

talk to your doctor!.!.!. He may help you better than anyone here can!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you had a defibrillator placed for atrial flutter!? that sounds very unlikely, I wonder if someone hasn't explained all the details to you very well!. typically a defibrillator is only implanted in folks who suffer from lethal arrhythmias like V-tach,V-fib, but usually not a-fib,or a -flutter!. It is possible to get the defibrillator for one type of arrhythmia, and if it is set too sensitive it can go off from a run of A-flutter, but the cardiologist who sees you can query the box and find out why it shocked!.
The defibrillator anxiety you feel is quite common especially if they have experienced a discharge before!. I can't tell you I know how you feel, but if you got the defib because of a potentially lethal arrhythmia then if it goes off one of two things will happen; you will wake up after some time feeling like you have been punched in the chest but alive!. or you wont wake up at all!. I know that sounds morbid, but for people who have had a cardiac arrest in their past, it is impossible to assure that they will never have that again!. you say you are afraid to do anything but the times it went off you were doing nothing!. I would think you would be afraid to do nothing!. obviously driving and working on the roof of the house wouldn't be the best ideas until cleared to do so!. Sounds like the cardiologist needs to do some explaining as to what hardware you have, what does it do, and how can you try to prevent a jolt if possibleWww@Answer-Health@Com
