Baby exposed to TB?!

Question: Baby exposed to TB!?
My 9-month old son was exposed to TB last week (so was I for that sake)!. To say I'm unhappy is putting it mildly, especially since the infected person KNEW she had TB and still decided it'd be a good idea to play with my son!. As we all know, germs are more likely to spread through hand contact than mouth to mouth contact!.

Anyway, I did phone my doctor who said to keep and eye on him and only take him in if he starts to get sick!. I'm wondering, what are the odds he'll get TB, what's the gestation period of the disease and what symptoms, other than coughing and fever, I should look out for!?

Also, is it a good idea to sterilize everything she's been in contact with!? It's been a week, it seems kind of pointless now!.

I live in a country where TB is very common, and I can't believe how little I know about the disease!.

Thanks everyoneWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Sorry to hear of your situation!. I can certainly understand your frustration!. TB is not very easy to get per se, you often have to be exposed to an infected individual for an extended period of time!. It is also important to know whether the person had active or latent TB!. Latent TB is not contagious, whereas active TB is contagious!. It is also important to know if the person was currently receiving treatment for TB!. TB is spread by infectious droplets (usually released when a person coughs, sneezes, laughs, etc!.)

I would follow your doctors advice and keep a close eye on your 9-month old!. TB can often be asymptomatic initially, but watch out for any productive coughing (especially if it produces blood), low grade fever, loss of appetite, and weight loss!.

I hope everything turns out okay with your nine month old!. Please keep us posted!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
