Answers:
It's not possible for anyone to make a diagnosis with certainty over the internet, no matter how smart he/she sounds, so you should really go see a doctor, especially considering what you are describing does not fit into the category of something mild/harmless which can be self-treated without medical attention!.

Having said that, there are a few possibilities:

1!. Low blood pressure:
If you have lowish blood pressure to start with, heat from the kitchen (along with standing for a long time) can cause your blood pressure to drop even lower, to the point where your brain is not getting enough oxygen/nutrients -- which is usually associated lightheadedness, darkening of vision, and in severe cases, fainting!. (It is possible you sat down just in time to avoid blacking out!. However, it shouldn't have taken 2 minutes for your vision to return!.)

2!. Low blood sugars:
You didn't describe feeling hungry, warm/sweaty, and/or nauseated around the time, so I think this possibility is less likely!.

3!. Amaurosis Fugax:
Usually this only affects one eye -- did you lose vision from BOTH eyes!?

4!. Lack of blood to the parts of brain responsible for vision:
This can lead to loss of vision in one or both eyes, and can be caused by either blood clots, or inflammation of blood vessels!.

You can find more info here:

Anyway, most of the things I listed above are quite serious, so you should go see a real doctor, instead of relying on total strangers here at Yahoo Answers!.
