Question: Is it true that the only way you can get food poisoning is if tomatoes are rotten!?
My mother told me that if the food isn't rotten, it is safe!.

With all the recalls on tomatoes and whatnot lately, I am worried that isn't right!.

Anyone know the story on that!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

the 'tomato scare of 2008' is no joke!. As of today over 225 people have been adversely effected by the infective agent on the fruit!. It appears the infective agent is Salmonella, a type of bacteria responsible for stomach and intestinal infections in humans!. It also appears that the contamination is coming from human fecal contamination of the water used on the tomato's, either to irrigate them, or to wash them in after the fruit was picked!. At any rate, most of the fruit responsible for the illnesses diagnosed so far have been from a particular area in Fla!. Since that area has stopped shipping tomatoes, you should be ok eating anything you get at the store!. Remember, this particular problem was deep into the flesh of the fruit, which meant that simply washing the fruit did not solve the problem!. Good question, go to CDC!.com for the link for the center for disease control, you will get the real information!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Mom's wrong this time!. Salmonella cannot be seen w/ the naked eye!. Under a telescope it's very visible!. It can make you deathly ill!. The food can look perfect but, the bacteria is inside!. Best be careful and eat only vine grown tomatoes until they find the location of the contamination!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What I read in the newspaper (in the UK) was that some types of tomatoes in US had become infected with Ecoli!. They scientists thought that it may have been from manure (possibly they were organic tomatoes)!. It did seem strange that it was only certain varieties and that it was most of them!. Presumably if they are cooked well then there is no danger!. Don't know, would put me off eating them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The tomato scare is about salmonella (a bacteria) which can be contained in perfectly good looking edible tomatoes!. Certainly, no one should eat rotten food, but food does not have to be rotten to begin growing bacteria that could make you sick!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
