Bit of advise guys?!

Question: Bit of advise guys!?
I have just had a letter from my DM consultant!. My most recent HbA1c is 12!.2% which is an increase of 1!.1% on previous!. In the last 5 months i have worked hard to gain good BG but have not been able to achieve good control under 10mmol!. I have lost 3 1/2 stone since December, stopped smoking, and eat fat free diet!. So where am I going wrong - my Doctors letter urges me to "try everything" to gain better control but I just dont know what else to try!.

My insulin is post DAFNE with 120u background insulin + an average of 100u rapid acting ( which i think is alot)!.

Have been T1 DM for 3 years!.

All advise welcome!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You sound like a good candidate for an insulin pump, ask your DM consultant about it!. Are your BG's on a rollercoaster!? That's likely what's causing the high A1C, as well as the drop in weight (from severe high's)!. Doctors who say stuff like "try everything" are idiots, sorry!. Focus your energies with the DM consultant!.!.!.they are the ones who know how to manage diabetes, not the doctors!. The pump may make you gain a few pounds at first because your insulin will be better controlled, but you will feel better, your A1C's will improve, and you'll be able to stabilize so you can resume your weight loss efforts!. And they give you so much freedom, it's the closest thing we have to an artificial pancreas!. And you can get off the rollercoaster!

Congratulations on the strides you have made so far!.!.!.you will get there, and a pump would help you tremendously!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would have to say that you should talk with a nutritionist about what it is you are eating and how much!. I would also recommend talking to your doctor about the type of insulin you are taking!. Have you been checked for insulin resistance!?

What you really need to watch and count is the amount of carbohydrates in comparison to your insulin levels!. A nutritionist, along with your doctor, can help identify an appropriate and good ratio of insulin to carbs for your specific body!. It sounds as if despite all your efforts, something is not clicking!. Every "body" is different and you need to communicate with your doctors and healthcare professionals to find out what works for your body!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Um, what are you eating!?!?!? Are you eating according to the ADA, CDA and BDA food plans which emphasize eating a lot of cereals and grains mostly whole wheat!?!? And loads and loads of soft, sweet fruits!?

A fat free food plan only encourages you to eat more starchy foods, don't you know!?

Most American Endos recommend the South Beach Living plan to their patients whether they be type 1 or type 2!. It is much easier to choose foods from the SBL phase 2 plan than to try to go fat free and control glucose!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow - you really are trying hard!. I sympathise - I am NOT as good as you and really object to being told to do better - with little guidance on what "better" is! It isn't as if I sit & stuff chocolate all day!
The amount of insulin does sound like a lot - but then different insulins need different amounts!.
I would be inclined to go back to the clinic and ask to change insulin to be honest - it really doesn't sound like it is working well for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow that is a lot of insulin, and a high A1c!! You are trying to do everything and I think you could greatly benifit from an insulin pump!. I have one and I love it!. There are many different kinds of pumps but here is a link to read some about one of them!. It is real simple to find info online about the different kinds, this is just to get you started!.
