Does this doctor seem like he knows what he's talking about?!

Question: Does this doctor seem like he knows what he's talking about!?
I had Pleurisy in 2006 and I got it again about 2-3 weeks ago and yesterday morning I got it again!. I was on a 5 day antibiotic and that helps but it came back for some reason!. (I went to the hospital last night) well this doctor seems like he knows what he's talking about!.!. He said I just gotta fight it ony own and take Motrin every 4 hours and take Tylenol in between it!. And he took xrays and it came out clear and he took a blood test and that was fine to!. So he says it seems like a viral infection and I can't keep taking antibiotics
should I not be worried and listen to him!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, listen to him!. Antibiotics will not resolve a viral infection!. You should rest, drink lots of clear fluids, and stay away from anything that could irritate your lungs (pollen, smoke, chemicals, dust etc!.) If you do all of these things and don't start to feel better within a week, follow up again with your Dr!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, that sounds like good advice, b/c if you have a viral infection (and the dr would know that if the blood work and chest x-ray came back clear) then antibiotics, which only kill bacteria, won't help at all b/c the pills won't kill a virus!.

Just try to keep healthy and rest up so you can let your body fight the virus on it's own!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

seeing as he went to medical school, he has a better chance of knowning what he's talking about!. If you keep taking antibiotics for a virus you're only making yourself resistant to that antibiotic!. You might want to see a pulmonary specialist to determine why you have a re-occuring infection!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well you can't keep pumping yourself full of antibiotics!. Too much and your body will build up a resistance, thus making them useless!. If your X-rays are clear and it is a viral infection just take the asprin / ibuprofen, and tough it out!. You'll be fineWww@Answer-Health@Com

DOC PROBABLY RIGHT, VIRAL INFECTIONS DO NOT RESPOND TO ANTI-BIOTICS,AND X-RAY &BLOOD CLEAR ,TIME IS THE HEALER!.

PARACETOMOL 2X4TIMES DAILYWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, he sounds competent!. And you should always limit the use of antibiotics!. Using them when you don't need them makes them less effective later!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it is a viral condition antibiotics will not do you any good!. letting your body take care of it is a good idea!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

He went to college for much longer than most people learning about meds, and therefore is a doctor!. I would listen to him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

SOunds like what he is saying makes sense!. If the x rays are clear and its a virus then antibiotics will do nothing to help but will make you immune from them xxxxxxWww@Answer-Health@Com

listen to your doctor!. doctors are Gods!. BSWww@Answer-Health@Com

what you need is a second opinion!. go to another doc, see what he/she has to say!. they have all different ideas!. some do their job for the sake of earning money as long as teh patient isnt at risk of death!. others are more passionate and helpful and would do anything for the patients interest!. go see another doc or at Bupa!. it may be a ray of sunshine on your part!. you never know, they might be able to solve it!. I know a few private docs not on the NHS if you wanna know!. email me via my page for more info!. They have done extensive research that NHS don't allow in the UK due to money problemos!. you need a long term solution, not one that just gets you by everyday!Www@Answer-Health@Com
