What Causes Enterocolonitis?!

Question: What Causes Enterocolonitis!?
I know iti is an inflammation of the large and small intestines, but what causes it!?

Can it be a misdiagnosis or masking another problem!?

My 18 year old daughter was in the Emergency room last night with stomach pain and rectal bleeding!. Her white cell count was elevated!.

The ER doctor diagnosed her with Enterocolonitis and a lower GI Bleed and he scheduled her with a "stomach doctor" on Mondy at 8:30 AM!.

Needless to say, I am worried because we have a history of Colon Cancer in our family!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are both bacterial and other causes of enterocolitis!. If your daughter has lower G-I bleeding, usually considered because of passing red blood, then the bleeding is likelym in the colon!. The diagnostic procedure would be a colonoscopy, a routine procvedure, under mild general anesthesia - taking about a half-hour!. There are several bacteria causes possible!.

Bacterial enterocolitis

Disease-causing bacteria usually invade the small intestines and colon and cause enterocolitis (inflammation of the small intestine and colon)!. Bacterial enterocolitis is characterized by signs of inflammation (blood or pus in the stool, fever) and abdominal pain and diarrhea!. Campylobacter jejuni is the most common bacterium that causes acute enterocolitis in the U!.S!. Other bacteria that cause enterocolitis include Shigella, Salmonella, and EPEC!. These bacteria usually are acquired by drinking contaminated water or eating contaminated foods such as vegetables, poultry, and dairy products!.

Enterocolitis caused by the bacterium Clostridium difficile is unusual because it often is caused by antibiotic treatment!. Clostridium difficile is also the most common nosocomial infection (infection acquired while in the hospital) to cause diarrhea!.

E!. coli O157:H7 is a strain of E!. coli that produces a toxin that causes hemorrhagic enterocolitis (enterocolitis with bleeding)!. There was a famous outbreak of hemorrhagic enterocolitis in the U!. S!. traced to contaminated ground beef in hamburgers (hence it is also called hamburger colitis)!. Approximately 5 % of patients infected with E!. coli O157:H7 can develop hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a syndrome that can lead to kidney failure, usually in children!. Some evidence suggests that prolonged use of anti-diarrhea agents or use of antibiotics may increase the chance of developing HUS!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi Heart!.!.!.!.,
firstly, the term "Enterocolonitis" is one of those very many "medical" terms which actually mean nothing other than, "we have absolutely no idea what this problem is, where it came from or what to do about it but we'll put this clever sounding label on it so that it sounds as though we know something useful"

Colon cancer is the result of a self image as a victim!. She, very obviously, worries a lot, doesn't she!? Chronic worrying will cause the symptoms you've enumerated!.

I'll try to get a meditation which will resolve this problem for you all onto my health blog tomorrow afternoon!.
