If a skin cancerous mole is removed early, does that mean the threat has entirel!

Question: If a skin cancerous mole is removed early, does that mean the threat has entirely gone too!?
I had a small small mole cut out of my forehead by a plastic surgeon!. It was for cosmetic reasons, then after it was removed he casually said "it was lucky I removed it because that was canerous"!. It was in my early 20's!. If it was cancerous, is the threat now completely removed as there's no mole anymore!?

He said it casually, didn't mention it in the checkup (I'd expect if you see a cancerous mole you'll say it has to be removed), and made no deal out of it!. Maybe only after a mole is removed you can tell that it was cancerous!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

If a mole is recognizeable as a skin cancer when it is removed, then most likely it was recognizeable beforehand!.

The only sure way of finding out is with a biopsy, that would tell what kind of skin cancer you have and whether they got it all (clear margins)!. The 2 most well known are Basal Cell Carcinoma-which is the least dangerous, and once removed, usually doesn't recur from that area!. Then there is the mean one-malignant melanoma-which is dangerous and can grow, spread, and unfortunately, kill!. If the Surgeon felt it was a skin cancer, then find out what the biopsy results were, any decent surgeon would have sent it without thinking twice!.

It is not always possible to recognize a skin cancer on sight, but there are some characteristics that do send flags out to a physician!.

Check with your Dr!. and make sure he biopsied it, and find out what kind it was!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

More than likely it was a basal cell carcinoma, a very slow growing cancer which rarely spreads to other organs!. If it were a squamous cell carcinoma, it would have been treated much more aggressively!. You don't need to worry so much about your previous mole being a threat, but realize that sun exposure may make you more susceptible to future skin cancers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you have such a history of a malignant mole then you have to have comprehensive skin examination and follow up from time to time !. Noone can guarantee for you it won't happen again !. Hopefully it won't but you have to take precautions , Just make sure you weren't misdiagnosed , I wonder why he said it was malignant without biopsying it and he even said it casually without any advice !!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not totally!. If you stay out of the sun and live a healthy lifestyle your chances of not having a problem are very good!. the problem with cancers is that they often have a genetic component - some people are simply predisposed to developing cancer!. Thats why some life long smokers never develop cancer and why some who have never smoked do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i dun think so!.!. cos there still can be little particles of it still stuck and may re-develop but maybe deeper into ur skin and u cant see it :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sadly I have lost a close relative to skin cancer - so please be aware that you MUST MUST MUST have yearly check ups for ALL your moles!.

Once a person has had ANY form of skin cancer, you need to keep an eye out!. Most forms of skin cancer are NOT aggressive - did your surgeon specify WHICH type you had!? Of course the most lethal one by far is MALIGNANT MELANOMA!. You need to find out WHICH type you had!.

When a cancerous mole is removed, they are meant to take a certain amount of 'clear' skin etc around and beneath it, to make sure of the size and that it has ALL been removed!.

Which country are you in!? If you are in the UK, there is a great place called the MOLE CLINIC; it's run by a man who himself had malignant melanoma; he and his team use special photography that analyses all moles against known patterns/types of cancerous moles!. DEFINITELY worth going to!.

Again, I strongly recommend that you have a YEARLY check up on ALL your moles - go to a dermatologist!.

edit

Surely the surgeon sent it out for biopsy!?

You must get in touch with him and find out WHICH type of cancer it was - assuming it was cancerous, that is!. He sounds rather casual about the whole thing, if you don't mind my saying so!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
