Hand, foot, and mouth disease?!
Question: Hand, foot, and mouth disease!?
I have been in the ER with my 2 yr old son for the past 2 nights!. Friday he was running really high fever (103) and I could not get it to come down, then he started vomiting!. At the ER they gave him more motrin and sent us home!. Last night his fever was really high again, he is not eating or drinking and his throat is swollen and he tells me it hurts!.!.!.back to the ER we went!. The doc saw the sores in his mouth this time and said it is a form of Herpes Simplex!. Other moms and people I know say it is Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease, which I don't know if it is basically the same thing!. The sores are just in his mouth and throat though!. My question is, does anyone else think this could be Hand, Foot, and Mouth, and how long is he contagious!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
If the lesions (Sores) are only in the throat the term is Herpangina, usualy caused by Coxackie Virus!.
To diagnose it as Hand, Foot and and Mouth Dsease the lesions have to be present in the corresponding regions!.
Herpangina: Fever lasts 3-5 days and lesions may last a week!. All you got to do is watch for fever and dehydration!. Hydrate him and continue the motrin, that's all you can do!.
If it is contagious!. !?!.
Yes it is, but not through cough or breath, only by direct contact during the active lesions!. (1 Week), max!.
Just maintan hand washing during direct contact with excretions and secretions!.
DIET: Plenty of fluids juices, preferably cold, jelly, soft foods, like mash potatoes etc!.
GOOD LUCK, HE'S GONNA BE OK, IT'S A SELF LIMMITED DISEASEWww@Answer-Health@Com
