I am a virologist (I work on rabies virus) and I would have to say that the worst type of viruses are those that are airborne!. ie they are spread in the air from person to person!. Ebola is a haemorragic disease!.!. it liquidises patients from the inside (people bleed from all their orrifices before dying of shock), the only reason it has not killed more than it has is that it is onoly transmitted by contact with contaminated blood!. In Reston in Virginia, monkeys being tested on for ebola, had a mutated version that became airborne!.!. but did not infect humans!.!. but killed many of the monkeys!.
For a real killer!.!. you need the virus to have an incubation period!. ie you are infectious before you show symptoms!. that way you will walk around transmitting the infection for a few days before you get sick!.!. maximum carnage!. You also need it to kill slowly!. Ebola kills so quick, it often will spread through a village and kill all in it's path so quick there is no time to move onto other hosts!.
Just for your information, all of the most severe and deadly viruses tend to be RNA viruses (HIV,Rabies,Ebola, Bird Flu)!.
As for rabies virus!.!. death rate if infected!.!.!. pretty much 100%!
