Can a sample of an abscess be taken @ home and brought into your doctors office?!
Question: Can a sample of an abscess be taken @ home and brought into your doctors office!?
My 8 month old son has been getting absesses since birth in various areas!. The doctor reccommended that once this new infection started to drain that he be brough in and a sample be taken!. I was just curious in case it stopped draining, if we could collect a sample of the fluid on a clean swab and place it a ziplock bag!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
No!. The swab is put in a special medium that keeps the bacteria alive so they can tell what it is and what it is susceptible to!. As long as the abscess has not scab-ed over they should be able to get a culture!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
what kind of abscesses are these!? Where!? If you were to take a sample it should be taken by a professional with a sterile kit for a clean read on what is driving the infection!. If you do not take a sterile sample and somehow contaminate it against the skin around it, which carries it's own host of organisms, you might be prescribed a antibiotic that is NOT proper to kill the organism that is harbored in the infection site!. Geesh, did I make sense!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
No, take him in, let the pros do it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
