Your sister is right!. Most microorganisms are REALLY picky about the temperature they like!. Anything above that and they either can't reproduce or they die off!. Your body knows this, and so it gives you a fever in an attempt to protect itself from invasion!. the general rule is to treat a fever only if it is over 102!.4 for an adult!. You body, the beautiful machine that it is, dosn't always know when to stop!. Without treatment, some fevers can continue rising until they cause other complications, such as confusion and hallucenations, usually around 105-106!. \If a fever gets this high, you should seek emergency medical care!. While most fevers won't ever get this high, all fevers have the potential to do this, so it's best to treat them when they get up around 102!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
It depends on what's causing the fever!. It's true a fever is the body's way of trying to kill off an offending "bug", but it can also be draining!.
It really won't make too much difference, however if you bring the fever down, it will go back up when the "medicine" wears off!. A person will feel better without the fever, so taking the medicine makes sense, it won't hurt you or make your condition worse to bring it down!.
If in an adult the fever lasts more then about 3 days or other symptoms develop or the you seem to start feeling worse rather then better, it's time to seek medical attention!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
