Strep throat??!

Question: Strep throat!?!?
Can you have the fever before the actual bumps in your throat form!? My 2yr old ran a fever since last night and took her to the doctor today!. She said tonsils were swollen but strep test came back negative!. Now the baby is complaining of throat hurting and when I looked I saw white bumps!. Could they have just formed even though her fever already started!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
yes!.!.!. i always start with just a fever, then in a day or so, i get the white bumps!.

if it was a 'rapid strep' test, the one that only takes like 10 minutes or so, they are notorious for giving false negatives!. when they come back positive, there's like a 99 percent chance of it being correct, but that number is much lower for the negative results!.

call your doctor again and request that he send the swab to the lab for a strep culture!.

in the meantime, just tylenol or motrin to keep the pain and feaver down!.

edit:
to the mom below, the doctor may not have given her meds because the strep test came back negative!.!.!.!. they probably diagnosed it as a viral infection, which no medication can fix!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!. That happened to me!. I had a fever for two days and felt awful before it effected my throat!. I went to the doctor finally after the spots appeared on my throat and it was strept!. Take her back in for a retest if she is not on an antibiotic!. Prolonged strept left untreated can lead to rheumatic fever!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Look child you went to the doctor, I do not mean to sound angry, but I know dam well the doctor gave you meds for your child the meds is not going to work over night, you have to keep giving it to her on schedule, o!.k!.

Good Luck
