Why do people ask in here about worrying symptoms instead of just going straight!

Question: Why do people ask in here about worrying symptoms instead of just going straight to their GP!?
No offence meant to many of the medically qualified and interested contributers here, but I was reading some advice in reply to this poor guys question regarding his symptoms, and was totally appalled by it!.

Among the list of possible illnesses, he was told by one that his symptoms could be due to Lupus, by another, that he's probably suffering from aids!.
I bet he feels absolutely brilliant now after asking that bunch!.

Would you ask here for medical advice if your symptoms were worrying you!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

There three types of people out there, There are those that are constantly wasting gps time and our (taxpayers) money by attending the gp with any minor cough and sniffle!. And then there are those 'worried wells' that know they are fine but still worry about the spot on their leg etc, and need reassurance!. Fortunately they are the types that dont want to waste gps time, instead they post on here!. The third type is like me, i only go when i have to!. (although i have to some degree displayed behaviour of the other two types in the past)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I personally would not but I also have medical background!. Some people (like the hundreds who are constantly saying OMG AM I PREGNANT!?!?!?!?!?) Im glad they ask on here before rushing to an ER to have a Stat test run!. Haha!. Most other topics however i think should be discussed with a physician who knows their history not some asshole diagnosing people with aids!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

oh heck no!. i've found that the general public is kind of ignorant when it comes to even basic health issues!. no i'm not a HCP but i do know a thing or two about a thing or two!. there are so many things that people ask that can't be resolved unless you go to your doctor and get tested! what really gets me is when people ask "what medication should i use for!.!.!.!.!.!.!." that's not up to Joe_Shmo89, i'm pretty sure that's for your physician to determine!!!

i like the yahoo answers, i think it's a great idea, I just don't really see why there's a health category!.!.!.

i also love when people say "oh just go to www!.webmd!.com and expect to find answers!. i'm sorry but that site is kind of a joke!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No!. But I look at it as Darwinism in action!. If they are too dumb to drag themselves away from the computer and go see a doctor, then the gene pool is better off without them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are right, if you are worried about a medical problem you should consult your GP!. However I suppose you could consider it a bit like mulling a question over with your pals, the guys at the pub, or a relative!. These days many people look on the Internet in a similar way, with chat rooms, blogs etc!. It does get a bit worrying sometimes when I see people with very serious emotional issues putting very long questions up, even more than those with physical issues!.

There are also problems that people don't want to take to their GP, although they probably should, they may not find it very helpful to do so!. The most common issue of this type is obesity!. About 20% of all Health Answers questions are with regard to people who are overweight!. To be frank, if they all trooped in to see their GP he would be overwhelmed!. Unfortunately the vast majority of them are hoping to fing a magic trick to help them, they are going to be disappointed whatever they do!

Another big group are those who have a problem they know their GP can't fix, many are again looking for magic tricks in the form of alternative therapies!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
