You don't say how old you are, but judging from the Dx of AMD, you must be getting up there!.
Two years ago I was diagn!. with Wet AMD and it seems harder to treat with less positive results than the dry!. I do take Bayer's (OTC) Nutritional Science for eyes, which contains the two suggested antioxidents Lutein and Zeaxanthin!.
I first experienced flashing lights shooting from top to bottom of my field of vision, first on one side of the eye and occasionally on the other!. Also on and off experienced the slicing pain such as a razor cut would give!. Some years ago I had a nail in this same eye and I often wonder whether that had anything to do with this dx!. When I was diagnosed, the prob!. had had a very quick onset and that took me into the opthalmologist's office!. I saw pictures of the macula and there were hills and valleys where there should have been smooth and unraised surfaces!. There's a 'leaking' of fluid or blood in the macula that obscures central vision (black spot in center) I've asked about treatment, but neither injections nor any other help is forthcoming yet!. I've asked about clinical trials and you might want to try that as well, but do not wait to get treatment!. I finally had to give up my driver's license!. Fortunately, most often AMD affects only the central vision while leaving the peripheral vision in tact, and usually only affects one eye!. This makes depth perception a real hoot <grin>!. I suggest you contact your state's Commission for the Blind!. They'll guide you through all sorts of resources including a computer program that magnifies and enables reading material to be read on your TV screen!. Then there's your Library which has access to much good stuff as well!. The Commission for the Blind also has training so that you learn how to cope with the frustration of losing eyesight!.
See as much as you can see now while you can and perhaps you can prevent the prob!. from getting any worse and prevent it from occurring in the other eye!.
I've also done two telephone surveys for the folks who make Lucentis!. These were 1/2 surveys and were paid!.
I still enjoy lots of color in my life and it helps to have well-lit areas whereas my neighbor who has glaucoma, likes the subdued lighting best!.
Good luck to you and do keep abreast of current treatments while you're online!. I send anything I can to my opthalmologist 'cause I figure I've got more time than he has to research!. Worst thing about this is not driving any more; makes me so much less self-sufficient!. But we shall overcome and I'm learning slowly how to adapt to a sightless world!. I practice walking here and there at home with my eyes closed and how to do everyday stuff with eyes closed and just by feel!. When one sense shuts down, encourage the others!. Hope some of this helps!. I still read (although less) and I still design websites although my oil painting has turned into computer graphics now instead!. One door closes and another opens!.
