Answers:
Not necessarily any greater than if nobody else in your family had had it - hereditary breast cancer is far less common than many people think!.

Only 5-10% of breast cancer cases are hereditary, the rest are random!. With one in nine women getting breast cancer at some time in their lives, it isn't unusual for more than one woman in the same family to develop non-hereditary breast cancer!.

You would be at increased risk if either of your grandmothers carried one of the two known faulty genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2) responsible for hereditary breast cancer, and their child - one of your parents - had inherited it!. I which case you would have a 50% chance of inheriting the gene!. Inheriting the gene would not mean you would definitely get breast cancer - one in five women who inherit the gene don't!.

If one of your parents does not carry one of the BRCA genes, then you are not at significantly increased risk!.

What you need to know is whether any of your relatives who had breast cancer carried the gene, or whether they were among the 90%+ of breast cancer patients whose cancer is not hereditary!.

You don't say how old your grandmas and aunt were when diagnosed; the younger a person is the more likely the cancer is to have a hereditary factor!. Cancers which develop after the age of 50 are far less likely to be hereditary!.

When I was diagnosed my oncologist was able to assure me that my breast cancer was not hereditary and that other members of my largely female family were not at increased risk!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you female!? Probably a good chance of getting it - some men have been known to get breast cancer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
