whats sodomy!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

According to most blood bank rules if a man has had sex (safer sex OR unprotected sex) with a man EVEN once since 1979 is unable to donate blood!.

This policy is discriminatory, homophobic, and WAY outdated!. But these are the policies!. There has been a lot of work to have these policies removed in Canada!. I believe some other countries have removed these policies!.

30% of all new infections occur heterosexually, so the epidemic is changing and permanently deferring an entire group of people regardless of risk factors is ridiculous!.
If you are heterosexual and have hundreds of instances of unsafe sex with multiple parnters, you only have to wait a year or so before you can donate!. But a man who has had protected sex with 2 or 3 people and who has been checked for HIV is unable to donate forever!?!?!? It makes no sense!.!.!.especially seeing as how they test each and every unit of blood donated and they use more sensitive tests to detect HIV (so the window period is even smaller)Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it was unprotected, you shouldn't even THINK about being a blood donor until you've had HIV tests that have consistently come back negative!. I don't really know the Red Cross's policy on blood donation, but I'm sure that they only want blood that is absolutely safe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends where you live!. Like BJC, I don't understand the US rules, either!.

In the USA, if you've had any male to male sex since 1979 you are permanently excluded from donating blood on the current rules!. Check again in a few years - the rules can change!. I reckon they will, eventually!.

In Australia, you are excluded if you have had male to male sex in the past twelve months, like me!. My sister is excluded by current rules from donating blood because she lived and worked in the UK in the 1980s, and they don't have a way of testing for variant CJD!.

The chance that I have HIV, undetectable by routine blood donor screening is about as remote as my sister carrying CJD from British Beef!.

But if either of us ever needed a blood transfusion, I'd be pleased that the Red Cross is as picky as they are!. Blood donor selection is (or ought to be) a scientific medical decision aiming to minimise the risks to donor and recipient, not a value judgement about the intrinsic social worth of potential donors!.

You would need to contact the blood bank in your own country to check which rules apply!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well as i understand it i think you cant give blood if the other person is hiv poitive but if your not to sure have a test and just to be extra safe go on the blood website and ring them up then they will tell you for 100% if you can or cna't give blood!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Heck, I don't know what the big deal is!. If you're negative for any STDs, or any other illness then you should be okay as long as they don't know!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes, that's what it means!. i'm sorry!. the guide lines for blood donation say that if ur a man whose had sex with another man since 1979 then u can't donate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
