Answers:
Your thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck!. It's part of your endocrine system!. It releases a hormone into your body that largely concerns body growth (T4 and T3 are the most common ones involved with thyroid diseases!.)
The most common thyroid diseases are hypothyroidism (where it doesn't produce ENOUGH of this hormone) and hyperthyroidism, also known as Grave's Disease (where the thyroid produces TOO MUCH of this hormone!.)
Symptoms of hypothyroidism include feeling very tired and sluggish, weight gain, sleeping a lot, etc!.
Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include weight loss, being very hyper and active, appearance of bulging eyeballs, etc!.
Hypothyroidism is easily treated by taking a small pill every day, which contains thyroid replacement so your body continues to get enough of the hormone!. Grave's Disease is a bit more complicated but also pretty easily treated!. In severe cases (at worst), the thyroid gland might be removed surgically so it can't overproduce that hormone!.
If you have thyroid disease, you'll need a simple blood test to determine how much T4/T3 is in your body!. If the levels in your blood are out of whack, they'll adjust your medication so that you'll get a bit more or a bit less of the replacement hormone!. You'll probably need a blood test about every 6 weeks after that, at first, and when the hormone levels stabilize, you'll only need a blood test every 6 months-1 year or so!.
It's a very common and "simple" disorder; properly treated, it shouldn't effect your life at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
