Could I get Diabetes?!

Question: Could I get Diabetes!?
I'm an 18 yr old female, not over weight and kinda healthy!. My great-grandfather had diabetes and my grandfather and my dad now have diabetes!? It obviously runs in the family does that mean I am more at risk!?!?
My blood sugar level when Im really hungry does drop and I get shaky quite often because of it!.
But I thought maybe it was just a male thing in my family!.

Any help!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are two types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2!.
Type 1 is where your pancreas stops producing insulin and so you have to inject insulin to replace it!. You tend to get this while you're younger!.
Type 2 is where your pancreas still produces insulin but your body has become insensitive to it!. Type 2 generally starts in older people and if you have a lot of fat around your middle you are more likely to get type 2!.
Both types of diabetes can have a genetic link with other family members!. Therefore you have a higher risk of getting it!.
Symptoms of diabetes are increased thirst, urination and fatigue!.
Having low blood sugar and getting shaky would not indicate you have diabetes!. Having what is known as a 'hypo' is something diabetics have who inject insulin or take a diabetic medication from a drug group called a sulphonyrea!. This happens because insulin works to lower your blood sugar by storing glucose in your body!. If a diabetic has not eaten then this will cause their blood sugar to drop too low and give them what is known as a 'hypo'!.
The fact that you get shakey from not eating indicates you are producing insulin in your body without any help and therefore diabetes is unlikely!.
The best way to avoid diabetes is to keep at a healthy weight and take regular exercise!.
If you are worried though, see your GP though for a test!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Anyone can get diabetes, and it's more likely if you have it in your family!.

There is a link between diabetes and being overweight/bad diet/no exercise!. But it's not clear that these things -cause- diabetes!. It might be the same genetic disposition to be overweight is the one that causes diabetes!.

But if you acted as if there -was- a link, and decided to lose some weight, eat more intelligently, and get some exercise, then even if it didn't prevent diabetes, it would still be good for you!

I believe there is also a link between hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and diabetes!. Hypoglycemia is easy to control!Www@Answer-Health@Com

because you have relatives with it, you might get it too!. I have it, for me, it's not all that bad( I have type 2 which means that if I'm careful, I can still eat somethings and I don't use injectable insulin)!.

I don't think diabetes genetics is necessarily male or female!. You definitely have a genetic predisposition, so you should stay careful about nutrition and exercise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Diabetes is on a gene that has nothing to do with sex!. In other words, it affects males and females equally!.

It may be worth your while to get tested!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Every male in my husbands family including him are type 1 diabetics, my doctor told me to check our children monthly using my husbands testing kit so if they started developing it, it would be picked up quickly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
