About half of all women have benign small cysts in the breast which feel like lumps, and which change size somewhat with each month's hormone cycle!. Of course, there is a small chance that a lump will be cancer; these lumps are usually hard and without pain!. Women past 25 should learn to do a monthly self-examination and past 30, get an annual breast mammogram to screen for cancer!. The needle biopsy of a lump is done in the doctor's office!. A small core or tissue is sucked back into a small needle!. Anesthesia is not needed!. The whole lump is not removed at the time of the FNA (fine needle aspiration)!. If the needle biopsy shows cancer or is suspicious, then days later the entire lump could be removed for better examination!. Often the lump of a cyst is filled with clear fluid and will disappear in the office when the needle biopsy is done!. All you have to expose is the one breast area where the lump is to cleanse the area before the needle biopsy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all if the doctor told you that your lump was benign it would be because he/she did a needle biopsy or they removed the lump!. Those are the only two ways in which to find out if you have a benign or cancerous lump!.
The needle biopsy is done in the doctors office and you will only have to take off your top!. As for the size of the needle, if your like most of us when it comes to needles you will think it's huge!. It's not very comfortable having it done, but very important!. I opted for have the lump taken out, after the ultra sound showed no signs or property of cancer!. And, low and behold it come back cancer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You do not know and neither does the doctor that told you this !. !. what he has based his 'assumption' on is that it is RARE for a fibroadenoma to become malignant!. It can happen though in cases of fibroadenoma about 3 percent of them can turn into breast malignancies!. So it is something you should be aware can occur !. !. not that it will !. !. but that it can!.

Breast lumps or masses can be determined whether they are malignant or not malignant/benign by FNAB/ Fine Needle Aspiration biopsy or by excision biopsy depending on the size of the mass!. If its small, around 1 cm, the doctor excises the mass and submits it to the Histopathology dept!. to knw whether the cells are cancerous!. If the mass is bigger than 1 cm, FNAB is used instead and a needle is made to suck some cells of the whole mass for analysis again in the histopathology dept!. Local anesthesia is used for excision biopsy so dnt worry about the pain!. Minor procedures like this can be done in the clinic or the hospital!. The patient need not wear a gown!. The patient may simply take her garments off!. Regardless of the setting, the doctor will ensure your privacy and drapes around the room or bed where the procedure will be done are hung!. Also, if the doctor/surgeon happens to be a male!. a female nurse usually allowed to assist him in doing the procedure!. That way, the patients confidence and comfort is assured!. Its a quick procedure!. Usually takes 1 to 2 hrs!. The results come out after 1 to 2 weeks!. God blessWww@Answer-Health@Com

Well, since I have had two, Breast Biopsy's, I will give you a description of both!. Both of the biopsy's were done by a "Surgeon" not my regular doctor!.

One was surgical, they went into the side of the breast, took a small section of the what was a golf ball sized cyst and had it ran through the lab, the doctor removed the cyst while I was under!. That was on an out patient basis at the hospital, and yes I was put under, gown and cap!.

Second, was with a needle on the same breast 20 years later!. Yes it is larger than what you would normally expect, Yes you are in a gown, no cap!. They place you on a table in a certain position, actually using an ex ray to locate the exact location, the machine controls the needle!. Your breast receives a local to the area, and the needle shoots in, removes samples, mine were very tiny fragments of the prior cyst!. They used the needle twice, once to remove a sample and the second time to place a small piece of metal to make sure the area is easy to locate on further mammograms!. This was also on an out patient basis at the hospital, ordered by my "Surgeon"!.

No, if it is benign, trust the "Surgeon" when he tells you its okay, I can assure you if it were not, then he would be talking to you about scheduling you for surgery!. He will not take chances with your safety!. And he does not release you from his care, after the biopsy for at least a year, and several more mammograms!. Yes, all of this is scary, but it certainly will give you peace of mind once it is over!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
