If it's anything like the derealization/depersonalization that I experience before a panic attack, I would advise you to just leave him alone for a while to let him calm down!. The most painful thing when I'm experiencing this is to know that my girlfriend is worrying about my state - that always makes it worse!.
When he "comes back", don't make a big deal about what happened, just ask him how he's feeling and talk about something else for a while!. The whole ordeal is probably very embarassing for him (if he's like me) and he doesn't want a big deal made of it!.
Encourage him (when he's feeling OK) to see a doctor, it's been immensely helpful for me; therapy and medication!. I feel like I have much better control over the situation now!.
Tell him it's not uncommon and he's not "crazy", stress just builds up in some people, without their knowing!. Then one day, wham, the rug gets pulled out from under him!. It's important to nip this in the bud before it turns into full-blown panic!. It's a LOT harder to deal with if left unchecked!. It's important to learn coping skills the sooner, the better!.
Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't play amateur psychologist with your loved ones!. Even if you have the expertise to make this diagnosis, you are too close to the subject and are biased!. If you think your bf needs psychological help, urge him to see a psychologist or psychiatrist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
