My aunt also lost 1 of her lungs due to cancer and I'll tell you that it was not an easy journey! She would walk up the stairs into our liv!. rm!. (7 steps) and by the time she got to the top, she was extremely winded!. Her doctors told her that it would take some time getting used to functioning w/ 1 lung, but it can be done!. Your friend will still be able to talk too, they're not removing her vocal chords!. She may not be able to hold long conversations due to her being winded, but once her remaining lung builds up more strength to compensate for the loss of the other, she'll get better and better at holding long chit chat sessions!. As far as sports, I'm not quite sure what that will entail!. My aunt's cancer had spread rather quickly and passed away before she was even able to build up strength in her other lung, so I'm rather limited in my observations!. I would think your friend would eventually be able to play sports again to a certain extent, but it'll take a while, so you have to remain patient w/ her!.

I would suggest that your friend enroll in a voice instruction class for singing b/c they'll teach her how to rely on her diaphragm for breathing as well as some other breathing techniques to help her build up that other lung!. Even if she can't carry a tune, at least she'll gain the knowledge of how to breathe easier!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had my left lung removed in Jan!. 2008 due to cancer!. It has been 5 mths now and I am doing good!. I have shortness of breath issues, but that is to be expected!. I am told by my doctors that it will improve over time!.I currently use oxygen when I am active!. It helps with the shortness of breath!. Again I am hope full that this will be only a temporary part of my recovery!. I some times forget that this was a major surgery and I was told that it would take as much as 18 mths to recover!. It will take a positive out look and strong support from family and friends ( witch I have both) to get through this!. I read an article about a dud that climbed Mount Everest after a 2 year battle with Cancer and loss of a lung!. This gives me hope that I to will live a some what normal life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A guy I know lost a lung to cancer and he still works and everything!. I think it just takes time to strengthen the remaining lung!. She can probably play some sports but others like tennis, soccer might be tough!. Probably good for her to work out though like light hiking or something to strengthen the remaining lung!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had a neighbor who had 1 lung removed years ago!. I knew her when she was 35!? And she was so active she made me tired watching her!

She roller bladed, rode bike, jogged, motorcycled across the USA, etc!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you can have a normal life but she will have to look after the lung she has left ie no smoking, avoiding second hand smoke, rapid appt with doctor for possible chest infections etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She can still live a normal life!. Maybe no strenuous exercises perhaps, but otherwise normal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
