Answers:
More than 90% of all people have herpes simplex I (HSVI) by the time they are 40 years old!. Once infected, the virus travels to the trigeminal ganglion (a nerve of the head) and lies there dormant for the rest of your life!. Most people do not have significant symptoms on initial infection and many people do not have frequent recurrent lesions!.

It is highly likely that you have already been infected with HSVI but kissing someone with active lesions may lead to an outbreak and more frequent outbreaks in the future!. If there are no active lesions than the risk is extremely low!.

It is very unlikely that the orthodontist was the source of the infection!. Really the only way the orthodontist could have given him the infection was if he kissed him or didn't wear gloves!. Either way he would need a new orthodontist!. But going to the orthodontist or dentist can lead to a recurrent outbreak for two reason!. First, the stress of the appointment can supress the immune system and lead to an outbreak!. Second, the orthodontist is putting pressure on the lips and the appliances are putting pressure on the tissues also!. Both are capable of causing outbreaks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

unless he has an outbreak (fever blister/cold sore) you can't!. if he does have a sore, then definitely don't kiss him or even share eating utensils with him!. it is very easily spread!. although i've found that some people get it easily than others!. for example, my mom has the type of herpes that causes cold sores, and if she drinks after me when i have one then sure enough one will pop up on her!. but if you don't have a history of them in your family and have never had one before then you're most likely safe!. but NO MATTER WHAT don't let any type of cold sore/fever blister come into contact with your genitals!. sounds dorky and i know i'm not your mom, but TRUST ME!. oral herpes can infect genitals to cause genital herpes!. and also, after you kiss him (if you take the chance with him having a sore) be excused to the bathroom and wash your lips and hands!. just to be safe!. and before you wash your hands don't touch your EYES or GENITALS!.

hopefully that helps!
be safe though!. =DWww@Answer-Health@Com

i hate to sound like an mean person, but if it was only your frist date, and you don't plan on marrying this guy, then don't go out with him any more!. is a year or two with this guy worth getting herpes for the rest of you life!. A lot of people have oral herpes, but then again a LOT of people don't!. which catorgory do you want to fall into!.

And yes you can still get herpes whether or not he is having an outbreak!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, i have outright slept with a girl who had herpes, didnt get it, for one i was using protection, two, it was dormant, we dated for 4 weeks, and i get tests every year, so the answer is no!. And oh yeah he will always have herpes, it never goes away!. My suggestion, dont kiss him if he is having an outbreak!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I notice some of the answers you're getting are from morons!!
Herpes Simplex "IS NOT INCURABLE!!!" It's a cold sore,
and yes, contagious!
Everybody was the potential to develop a cold sore, so after his are treated and go away, don't be afraid that he will be permanently infected; because we all still have the possibility
of developing them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well be glad he told you that was good of him some will let you find out on your own when it's too late!. The reality is that you need to find another BF, do not let him peck any part of you for sure or even share anything where saliva is involved, no matter how hard it seems, he is damaged goods!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Is it genital herpes in the mouth area or is it a coldsore!. Coldsore is a form of herpes as well dont get me wrong!. When was the last outbreak!? If its gone you shouldbe fine as long as neither of you have open sores or chapped lips!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
