I had Appendicitis in 2006 and I didn't have a spinal tap!. I went to the ER because I was having constant pain for 10+ hours!. The doctores didn't know what was causing the pain so they took blood, and did a CT scan of my abdomen, which is where they discovered that my appendix was inflamed!. Then they did emergency surgery to remove it!. No spinal tap!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, spinal taps are very painful!. Not only are they painful, you have to be completely still for several hours following the procedure due to the chance of getting a "spinal headache"!.!.!.this is when the spinal fluid "leaks" out of the place where the tap was done and it gives people SEVERE headache!.

The good news is that appendicitis is NOT diagnosed via a spinal tap!. Usually, they will take a blood sample to check different counts, particularly the white blood cells!.!.!.!.that signals infection!. From there, it is usually diagnosed by symptoms!. Pain in the lower right abdominal quadrant, fever, nausea!.!.!.!.!.

Appendicitis happens when the opening to the appendix is blocked and the immune system reacts (infection)!. See the below referenced article for in depth info!.

Best of luck to your friends!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes blocked, often by stool, a foreign body, or cancer!. Blockage may also occur from infection, since the appendix swells in response to any infection in the body!. When they actually do the spinal tap, you may feel pressure and odd sensations, but it won't hurt!. I highly doubt you would need a spinal tap for appendictis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You do not need a spinal tap for appendicitis!. Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix!. The way the appendix is positioned allows bacteria to get trapped and inflames the appendix!. Appendicitis is most common during the adolescent stage!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
