Up to how long can it take for your lungs to rid themselves of tar once you quit!

Question: Up to how long can it take for your lungs to rid themselves of tar once you quit smoking!?
I quit last November, it has been 8 months and I still cough up small specks of black in my phlegm!. I asked my doc!. and he said that it was normal, as I had been chain-smoking 6 years prior to quitting!. How long did you have withdrawal symptoms when you quit!? Should I get a second opinion!? I can breath just fine and all, just have excess phlegm with specks of tar in it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
After 15 yrs of smoking (regardless of amount of cigarettes per day) yr lungs cannot be healed anymore!. So understand this process and see: lungs can take yrs to heal as the process is very slow and also depends on the quality of air you are breathing (are you exposed to 2nd hand smoking now!?!?)!. Living next to a highway does not help either! You are experiencing what we call a "smoker cough" as the lungs try slowly to clean themselves and expell the "garbage" out as much as the body allows!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

your still cough up this stuff as there are lots of tiny hair like strands that line the insides of the entrance to the lungs that help protect the lung when you smoke over a period of time these become flat and gunk'ed up (like honey over a feather duster) so cannot work!.!.!. when you stop smoking they begin to slowly work cleaning themselves and sending all the sticky (tar) gunk back out this takes time!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it might be 6 weeks or something!.!.!.i'm not 100% sure but i also think that it depends on how much you've smoked!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
