Cancer staging?!
Question: Cancer staging!?
after removal of a brain tumor, about how long does it take for the biopsy results to come back!? will this tell what type of cells and what stage the cancer is in!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would say about a week depending on how busy the lab is!. They will take the tumor, dip it in paraffin and slice the pieces very very thin!. Next the slices get stained and then a pathologist will look at it under the microscope!. Depending on the cells they see and how many there are it will aid in the prognosis of the patient!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Staging has to do with morphology (what the cells look like) and the size of the tumor!. Pathology slices stains and tests tissue just about as soon as they get it so by the time your doctor explains it to you I couldn't say!. Brain cancers are different because you can't treat them with chemo like other cancers because of the blood brain barrier!. This isn't the end of the world because lots of times brain tumors are slower growing and can go into remission often!. The main treatment would be surgery and radiation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Staging is done by Xrays and or other scans!. Stages are done to classify if tumor has spread elsewhere!.

Well I'd say theres 5 stages!.!.!. if they detect it in the early stages they have a lot better chance of doing alright!.!.!.
