It's probably completely normal!. Most people occasionally have what are called "myoclonic jerks" as they fall asleep!. It's just part of the body relaxing and entering the sleep phase!. Your muscles jerk and spasm, sometimes waking you up!. If it causes significant distress, you might have a more serious problem, but if it's only making you worry in general I think you can stop worrying!.

I suppose it is *remotely* possible that you're experiencing simple partial seizures, but sorry, that would go under the "see a doctor" advice!. Not even a doctor can diagnose you anyway without doing an EEG and probably other tests as well, which can be very extensive and sometimes still not lead to any solid conclusion!.

To reiterate, it's probably normal!. If it still bothers you, then sorry, but I don't think anyone here can help you any further!.

P!.S!. It's not Restless Legs Syndrome!. RLS is characterized by a feeling of almost numbness like your legs are tired or you want to move them!. It is usually a vascular supply problem not a likely cause of the muscular jerks you describe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Restless leg syndrome is a sleep disorder characterized by leg discomfort during sleep, which is only relieved by frequent movements of the legs!.

Agree with Kelly M, I think she is spot-on!. I have the exact same problem, really violent jerks as I fall asleep!. Since I'm epileptic, I talked to my neurologist about it!. She said it isn't a seizure, it's pretty normal, happens to a lot of people!. Just the body trying to regulate tension in your muscles when they relax too fast!.!.!.if that's what it is, you'll probably notice this happens the most when you are really tired!.
Another possibility is sleep apnea, but your doc will talk to you about that!. I wouldn't worry too much!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
