If it's the mother's first pregnancy, then there is no need to worry regardless of the baby's status!. However, she may become sensitized if the fetus is Kell ANTIGEN positive!.
If the mother is Kell ANTIBODY positive, and the baby is Kell ANTIGEN positive, that is the time to worry!.
Unfortunately, there is no shot available to give the mother ahead of time, like they do when the mother is Rh negative!.
The baby's anemia, if present, will have to be treated after delivery!.
