Hi,

I'd really like to speak after seeing the wound!.!.!.!.but going from the information you have given me;

Whether or not there is over granulation of the wound!.!.!.it should not be weeping with discoloured or bad smelling fluid!.

This does sound like it needs to be treated with anti biotics!. Over granulation alone does cause red "lips" to appear on the wound!.!.!.!.not inflamed and weeping wounds!.

Demand a second opinion!

Hope it heals soon xx

p!.s IF it is granulation alone and you are left with a red "lip" when it has "healed"!.!.demand also to be seen to by a specialist who can remove this quickly with laser surgery!.

pps!. Often antibiotics are given as a preventative measure after surgery!.!.!.this is becoming contraversial because of c-diff infections etc but it is normal practise to give post op patients antibiotics!.!.!.!.especially if a wound is like you described!.

Overgranulation is tissue that grows above the level of the surrounding skin, this then prevents epithelial cells from growing across the wound!.
Do you have a cavity or is the wound flat!? Has the District nurse taken a wound swab to rule out any infection!?
If you have a pre-disposing medical condition then your wound healing will be delayed, as it will be by infection, so this really needs to be ruled out as usually overgranulation wounds do not produce vast amounts of exudate!. Iodine is a good anti-microbial dressing, but maybe you could suggest Lyofoam (a dressing used to help overgranulation)!. If your wound is leaking alot, then i would suggest that it is changed more often to prevent deterioration of the surrounding skin:)
Hope this has helped:)Www@Answer-Health@Com
