For people who have Asperger's Syndrome: How do you handle stress?!

Question: For people who have Asperger's Syndrome: How do you handle stress!?
Having Asperger's myself, I'm learning how to be more responsible for my emotions and actions!.

I was just curious, how you Aspies handle it!? How do you control yourself not to have too much confusion that would cause meltdowns and such!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I usually try to avoid getting too stressed in the first place if at all possible!. I know what kinds of things stress me a lot or upset me, so I try to not put myself into such situations if I can possibly avoid it!. If I can't avoid the situation altogether, then I try to not let the stress get overwhelming at least!. When I feel stress building up, I try to go to some quiet place (a bathroom for example) to have a moment by myself to calm down and get a little break from the stressful place/situation!. At work when the noise becomes stressful for me, I put in my earphones and listen to my favorite music!.

After the stressful situation is over, I make sure to give myself time to relax and do something I enjoy!.

If something unexpected happens that confuses me, upsets me or stresses me to the point I'm not sure if I can handle it, I try to remove myself from the situation as soon as possible and be alone somewhere and let my frustration out!. Sometimes I'll rock back and forth to calm myself, sometimes I'll cry, sometimes I'll write down everything that's on my mind or the way I feel, just to get it out of my system, sometimes I'll listen to music that has helped me calm down in the past!.

I feel that those things help me, but first and foremost I need to be left alone when I'm feeling overwhelmed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm still not good with stress!. but I'm trying!. I''ve been trying to be aware of how I'm feeling and when a meltdown is imminent - usually, if I catch myself on time, being alone will prevent it, or at least reduce it!. I have a couple spots I go to when I want to be alone!. If I want to be completely alone, I go to this steep hill by the river, climb to the top, and sit, or I'll sit near the top on the side that doesn't face the road!. If I just need to get away from certain people, like my family, I go down to the river and sit right where there's a small waterfall and watch the water!. This doesn't work if I need to be completely alone because inevitably there are other people there, but if I'm in a mood where I'm fine being around people, just not people I know, it's my favorite spot!.

As a result of trying to prevent meltdowns, my stimming has increased markedly, but i don't really have a problem with that!.

I would say try to figure out what things set you off, be aware of how close you;re getting to your limit, and find a place where you can feel relaxed and comfortable!. It'll take time!. I'm nowhere near good at it yet!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I personally don't have it but I do have an understanding of it!. It can be difficult for a non-affected person to control their emotions!. I can imagine it must be very intense for you!. My only advice is to work on redirecting yourself when you become upset or angry!. Try to step back, breathe, and find neutral area!.!.!.sort of a quiet place away from from whatever has triggered you!.!.!.!.where you can calm yourself, maybe in another room, sitting the car, outside!.!.!.anywhere that works for you!. If another person is involved remove yourself from that person!. Sometimes people only seem to antagonize us more!. I really don't know what else to suggest that may help!. I give you credit for trying to help yourself and wish you the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
