It really depends on what kind of sore throat you have!. If it has no other symptoms you can assume it is a result of abrasion (probably drying out by sleeping with an open mouth, or a dry room)!. Gargling with salt water does help and simple painkillers like paracetamol/tylenol or Aspirin (if you can tolerate it) will kill the pain!.
If it has been there a while you shold see the doctor who will do various tests including a strep test (probably a culture) and at the most a blood test!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

heat up some water and put some baking soda in it
then gargle
gargle a bit at a time but use up the whole cup
if it doesn't help
use ricola cough drops
for warmth you should soak a towel in boiling water thenput it in a bag (without holes)
and fall aspleep with it around ur neck

Drink fluids to keep your body from getting dehydrated, try using a humidifier when you sleep, and if the pain is really unbearable take tylenol or ibuprofen to help with the pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
