First of all, when I had my aortic valve replacement at the age of 19 (I am 45 now), there were a few things I came to realize -- never should a young person ever receive a tissue valve, and if you had received the Bjork-Shiley type valve they were prone to failure!. Hopefully you have not had either of these implanted in you!. (Personally, I have a Bjork-Shiley valve and it is a scary thought to know that it has a 50-50 chance of failing)!. If you look at the top of the heart, you will see how big the aortic valve is, and it is INSIDE the heart between the top chambers and the aorta!. There is no way a keyhole operation can repair this valve!. If your cardiologist is smart, he will suggest a St!. Jude's valve!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe none available now!. Usually keyhole surgery is for abdomen and pelvic!.

Another option, percutaneous aortic valve replacement, which allows the implantation of valves using a catheter without open heart surgery is still being evaluated in clinical trials and is appearing to be promising in patients who are at high risk to undergo open heart surgery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it can but I also think it depends on a case by case basis!. I just had my pulmonary valve replaced last August (3rd Open Heart) and I had to undergo Open Heart, and yes I agree the recovery time is horrible!. I would bring it up to your doctor and the surgeon and see what they think is the best for you personally!. My dr said when I have to get aortic valve replaced (its going bad now too and probably in 4 years will need to be replaced) that I might be able to get that done!. I sure hope so because I do Not want to relive that experiance lol!. Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
