Question: What is wrong when a diabetics blood sugar suddenly spikes!? Please help! 10 points available!!?
My grandmother was put in the hospital two weeks ago for uroseptis (a urinary tract infection that leaks into the blood)!. She was ill for the first week and then improved!. She is now stuck in a nursing home so she can rehabilitate!. She has been better than before with her walking!. She also has emphysema, so she usually can`t walk very far!. She walks, with a walker, around the home and seems in prefect health!. She was a few days away from getting out when her blood sugar suddenly spiked!. They take her blood sugar 4 times a day and her numbers were 70, 140, and then spiked to 500!. What is wrong with her!? Is her body fighting something or trying to tell her something!?Please help me; I`m worried about her!. ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

If her glucose level was 70 then this would be considered a low reading!. A range to shoot for would be around 110!. It seems that when the blood sugar reading was 70 too much sugar or food was given causing a "rebound"!. A rebound can occur even at times when the right amount of sugars are obtained to reach the 110 mark!. Also infections can affect blood sugar levels along with stress and many other things!. Now being in a nursing home is obviously going to affect her emotions!.

On the other hand, with your grandmother being in the health that she is, 4 times a day is not adequate enough at all!. They should do continous blood glucose monitoring known as CGM for about 3 days to see how much her blood sugars are fluctuating!. I would speak to an endocrinologist for the best answers!.

Ive been a diabetic for a long time in good health with no complications!. I check my bloodsugar around 6-8 times a day or more if needed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She is diabetic!. When a diabetic eats the wrong foods, the blood suger spikes up high because a diabetic cannot process suger because of an insulin problem!. Much of this can be controlled through a stable and correct diet, which I'm sure the doctors will tell you about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Usually that happens when a diabetic patient eats something that is not appropriate for her diet!.!. The nurse is aware if her blood sugar goes high and the nurse will give insulin that will maintain the blood sugar levelWww@Answer-Health@Com

Could be stress also, she is very aware she is sick!? she could be stressing,Www@Answer-Health@Com
