What it sounds like when you say he feels confused at times!.!.!. it could very well be a "petit mal" seizure!. Also known as absence seizures!. Having seizures does not affect a persons mentality!.!.!.!.there are certain things that can happen to cause it though!. Like if a person were to go into Status Epilepticus (seizures one right after another, lasting for more than 30 minutes)!. That could cause brain damage!. I would encourage you, your family and step dad to get as much education and support as possible!. I don't know much about epilepsy but I believe there are many types!. My guess is that he may be having some seizure activity when he is feeling confused even though he is not having a full blown seizure!. I am sure it is important to make sure he is getting the proper treatment, ie medication dosage!. Make sure he talks to his doctor about this as I think there can be long term effects form untreated seizure disorders!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
a serious seizure can leave the individual "out of it" for a time after the seizure!. if one has many grand mal seizures over a period of time, it can cause permanent problemsWww@Answer-Health@Com
