How do I know if my industrial piercing is infected?!

Question: How do I know if my industrial piercing is infected!?
I just got my industrial piercing a few days ago (2) and I'm really paranoid about it getting infected!. It's still red and it's a little swollen and its throbbing in pain!. I keep accidentally knocking against it with my clothes and with my phone, will that be a problem!? I rotated it once, but I haven't done it again cause I don't think I'm supposed to!. I clean it everyday and is there anything else I should be doing!? My friend said she thinks the bar might be too small for my ear, here's a picture:

(theres sea salt drying on the balls - its not oozing)

Answers:
Your industrial piercing looks as if it were done by a professional; it's a very good job!.

The redness may be caused by your knocking against it!. Trauma is one major problem with cartilage piercings; you don't realize how much you touch or hit your ears in the course of a normal day!. I have two cartilage piercings on one side, and I cannot sleep on that side if I have earrings in!.

You've pierced your cartilage!. Cartilage is relatively hard and has no blood supply, but the tissue over it does!. Therefore an industrial can take up to 12 months to "heal"!.

It's important to avoid hitting your piercing!. You must be very careful when washing/styling your hair, putting on clothes, and talking on the phone!.

Sea-salt soaks and rinses are excellent for reducing redness!. In addition, I recommend Provon http://www!.bodymattersgold!.com/a_images/!.!.!. be applied (carefully!) around the piercing before your daily shower!.

Don't use rubbing alcohol, iodine, betadine, or antibiotic ointment on your piercing!.

This amount of redness is probably normal if you're hitting the piercing several times a day!.

Again, your industrial piercing looks very good!. I've always wanted one, but spend too much time on the phone at work!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
