Answers:
Type 1 diabetes is caused by the body's immune system attacking the cells the carry insulin!. Insulin is the protein that allows the body to turn food into energy!. So without insulin, sugar just floats around in the blood not able to enter the cells, hence high concentrations of sugar in the blood!.

The symptoms of Type 1 diabetes are:

drinking a lot of water (the body's way of trying to dilute the sugar and get it out)

peeing alot (due to water)

lack of energy (can't get energy from food)

severe weight loss (the body has to get energy from the body to survive (ex!. fat, muscle) muscle tends to be the first to go)

big appetite (your body is literally starving even though you're eating)!.

The diagnoses is easy!. The doctor just pricks your finger and checks your blood sugar, if it is too high then you are diabetic!. Determining if it is type 1 or type 2 is easy if you have high ketones, then you are type 1, and you can tell if you have high ketones by peeing on a ketones test strip and checking the color of the strip!.

Once you are diagnosed you are started on insulin!. Insulin must be given by injection, it cannot be consumed because the stomach acids will destroy the insulin!. But luckily, the injection only goes skin deep, meaning that it is not injected into veins or muscles, but maybe a half inch under the skin where there is a bunch of fat!. That is because you don't want the insulin to be absorbed too quickly, plus it is virtually painless!.

You can administer insulin a few different ways!. One is from syringe and a vial of insulin, another is through an insulin pen (where the insulin is already contained in a plastic pen looking thing, a needle head is twisted onto the top, and the units of insulin is dialed), then lastly there is the insulin pump (a pager looking thing with insulin and plastic tubing are secured with a needle into the skin and small doses of insulin are administered all throughout the day)!.

There are two types of insulin to be taken!. One is long acting and another is short acting!. The long acting insulin is given usually once a day and works through the whole day!. The short acting insulin is usually given at mealtimes, breakfast, lunch, and dinner!. These take into effect much faster than the long acting insulin and leave the system faster!. The amount of units injected is determined by your ratio of insulin to carbohydrates!. You have to add up all of your meal's carbohydrates and divide that by a certain number to get the correct amount of units, that number is different for for everyone so your doctor will help to determine that number!.

Of course some doctors will tell you to take a certain number of units at a certain time and eat a certain number carbs, but that really is unnecessary, and although it will keep your blood sugars stable better it restricts your life so much while the other system works just as well for most people!.

Doctors recommend a healthy balanced diet for type 1 diabetics as well as anyone, but they don't tell you that you can't eat ice cream ever agan or that you must eat vegetables everyday!. Really as long as you keep an eye on your blood sugars you really aren't restricted (unless you have a really health-food crazy doctor)!. That is the good thing about having type 1 diabtetes as opposed to type 2, you just need to give yourself more insulin, no diets or crazy exercise programs!.

You should check your blood sugar before every meal and before bed, and every two hours after a meal if your blood sugars aren't stable or your doctor feels the need, but if all is fine just four times a day is necessary!. But checking your blood sugar before and after exercise and whenever you feel your blood sugar is low is a really smart idea!. That is because exercise makes your blood sugar drop which can be really bad!.

The normal ranges of blood sugar for people without diabetes is 80-120, but a little over or under is okay!. For diabetics the healthy range is between 80-150!. For a diagnoses of diabetes your blood sugar has to be above 300, some can be as high as 900, which is very dangerous!.

When your blood sugar is too low it is called hypoglycemia!. this is anywhere below 80 but usually 60 and below!. Low blood sugar is very bad because all that your body runs on is sugar, so if there is not enough it can't function well!. Low blood sugar can occur within minutes!. Symptoms of low blood are trembling (usually the fingers are most noticeable), weakness, hunger, dizziness, nausea, sweating, nervousness, mood swings, and trouble speaking or doing math (worse than normal bad math skills)!. If it gets low enough the person could go into a seizure or coma and die!. Most diabetics carry a glucogon kit with them, it is red and contains a needle with liquid in it and a vial of powder!. you mix the liquid and powder together in the vial and draw it up through the syringe and stab it into muscle (leg works well) and inject it if the diabetic person is unable to help themselves!. This will get the body to dump all of the sugar that the liver stores up out!. Be cautious though, sometimes a person will truly think that they are fine when they are not (This isn't intentional!. The person's brain is in control by that point and is telling then that they are okay!. They cannot control they're rationality), if they seem to be acting strangely test the person's blood sugar or just give them a cup of juice!. If the person is seizing please call 911 (you can still be talking while having a seizure, and don't believe them if they say that they are okay, their brain is lying to them, and they sometimes won't notice that they are convulsing) and use the glucagon kit if the person has it with them, it won't hurt them, they seizing for goodness sakes, and it will most likely save their life!.

Having high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) can also be very dangerous!. You can go into a coma, and have permanent organ and nerve damage!. The symptoms are the same as diabetes, because well that is what diabetes does, it causes high blood sugar!. The dangerous part is if you start producing ketones, these start showing up if your blood sugar is higher than 300!. Ketones start breaking down the body's fats, but when your body wants to get rid of them, ketoacidosis (which can throw off the pH of your blood because of a build up of ketones in the blood) can develop!. Complications due to hyperglycemia take a while to develop so it is always better to have higher blood sugar than low blood sugar because there is more time to correct it!.

I hope this helps! Although I am interested in why you are interested in Type 1 Diabetes!. And by the way I have type 1, so that is why I know all of this!. Sorry I wrote so much!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know all about Type I diabetes!. I have had it since I was 14 years old!. I am now 20 years old!.

Diabetes mellitus is a condition caused by decreased secretion of insulin from the islets of Langerhans cells of the pancreas or by the ineffective use of insulin!.

Type I diabetes is also known as juvenile diabetes and is usually exhibited in children or young adults!. The cause of Type I is thought to be an autoimmune reaction!., which involves genetic and virus factors that destroy the islets of Langerhans cells!. Patients who have Type I diabetes must take insulin and monitor daily blood glucose levels!.

Symptoms include:
-Polyuria- excessive urination
-Polydyspsia- excessive thirst
-Polyphagia- excessive hunger
-Weight loss
-Blurred vision
-Dizziness
-Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
-Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar)
-Possible diabetic coma

You have to watch how many carbohydrates you eat and the amount of sugars in the food that you eat!. You should check your blood sugar on a regular basis!. More than likely you will need to check your blood sugar 30 min-1hour before you eat and then about 1 hour after you eat!. This is to know which foods make your sugar go higher than others!.

The normal ranges for blood sugars are 80-120!.

I am not sure what an Omnipod is, but if it is a blood glucose monitor then thats simple!. You have the meter and you put a test strip in the meter!. You prick your finger and get a small amount of blood and you put the blood onto the test strip!. In 5 seconds (for most meters) you will have a number show up on the screen of the meter!. This number will be your blood sugar!.

Blood sugars can be affected by many things!.
Stress
Exercise
Food
Insulin

My boyfriend has it!.!. when he was diagnosed he just felt like **** and needed to pee alot!. He can eat whatever he wishes just in proportion as long as he takes his insulin!. Blood sugar is checked half an hour before breakfast half an hour after it, and at meals!.!. he also checks it if he feels as though hes blood sugar is high!. Average blood sugar levels are between 3!.5 - 8!. An omnipod is an insulin pump, its filled with insulin and you wear it on your body for 3 days and then replace it!.!.it does all the injections for you!. Theres other ways to deliver insulin such as through an insulin pen or a syringe even!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
