Medication 3 months past expiration date?!

Question: Medication 3 months past expiration date!?
the medication exforge (for hypertension) expired 5-31-08!. is it ok to take!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The Military asked the FDA to test 400 different medications for efficacy past the expiration date!. Most meds, other than antibiotics are 90% effective 18 months after expiration, based on the DOD storage requirements!. There is actually a complete list out on the internet somewhere that lists all the meds!.
My Dad is using a blood pressure medication that was lost under the dresser (it's about a year old)!. At the docs recommendation for safety, he switches off on them using an old drug one time and the new drug the next time!. His blood pressure has remained stable!. That may not be the case with your drug, however, if you have a blood pressure machine at home, you certainly can do that!.

Keep in mind that how you store the medication also makes a difference!. If you keep it in your kitchen or bathroom, chances are, it's shelf life will be much shorter than if you kept it in a cool, dry and dark place such as a bedroom dresser drawer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

go ask your pharmacist!. S/He is the best person to ask in a case like this!. But question: is that the date your Rx expired or the date on the bottle of tablets!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

throw it out!. better safe then sorry!. there is an expiration date on it for a reason!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i don't know if its OK or not but I've heard after expiration date it looses it potencyWww@Answer-Health@Com
