My mom in law is 72 years old and has had the shingles for about a month now and they are really bad for her she lives a long way from me and cant travel even because of them they are hurting her!. she is under dr care there for these!. my son is 15 and had them and went to the dr and was over them in one week!. so i am wondering if due to her age its normal for them to last longer and be worse or if they may not be treating them rite!. she lives 7 hrs away from us so we cant get there to talk to her dr's!.!.!. any ideas on this issue!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Shingles can be quite painful for the elderly!. Has her doctor given her medications!? If not, she should have some prescribed to her!. Oatmeal baths may help her a little bit!.

I had shingles when I was 16 and they were on my face so I had to try to get rid of them quickly so as not to suffer scarring!. They probably aren't treating her right because with a strong antiviral, even with a weakened immune system she should be able to fight them!. If she goes untreated for too long then she could have permanent pain or nerve damage from the shingles!.
The Dr prescribed me with Valtrax (herpes medicine) and the shingles cleared right up!. Maybe they should try that with her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
