I would think that evidence of UTI would exist in a urinalysis!. It may or may not include bacterial sighting, but you should have red cells, white cells, perhaps chemical evidence of leukocyte and red cell/hemoglobin presence!.

That all being said, let me say this, Liz!.!.!.!. A lot of urine tests are done in doctor's offices, sometimes by people with very very little laboratory training!. Things get missed on doctor's office testing, that is a fact!. Many offices are just not so good at maintaining competence training, and/or using reagents within expiration dates and such!. And since they are doctor's offices, they are usually beyond any state or national laboratory regulation!. I know that you are not in the US, but I suspect the same could exist in your world!.

Also, some labs choose NOT to report bacteria on routine urine tests!. The reason is that there are so many additional ways that urine can have bacteria present other than it being sourced in the u tract and/or kidneys!.

My advice is that you have either a clean-catch or a short-cathetherized urine specimen collected and analzyed both for routine urinalysis, and submitted for a urine microbioal culture!. The cath sample would be a bit more uncomfortable for you, but it's not THAT big of a deal, I think that would be my plan if you were my patient!.

The clean catch would, at least, eliminate much of the external bacterial sources (vaginal secretions, etc!.) that may add non-clinical bacteria to a sample!.
