Blood sugar 160?!

Question: Blood sugar 160!?
Two hours after eating my blood sugar was 160!. Is that bad!? I've already been to the doc for the test!. It was 150 one hour after, 95 two hours after, and 45 three hours after!. My doctor didn't really say much after the test and I was too dizzy to care!. Do I need to go to a different doctor or am I okay!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
First, you need to know normal levels!.

Non-diabetics:
Fasting - 70-100
Postprandial (2 hours after a meal) - under 125
Random (no matter what was eaten or when) - Under 180

Pre-diabetics:
Fasting - 100-125
Postprandial - 125-145
Random - 180-200

Diabetic levels are anything higher than those!. I have a problem where my sugars can be fine one day, on the low side the next, and really high on other days!. Sometimes my highs drop so fast that I get dizzy and sick, sometimes passing out!. Both readings are definitely not normal!. He probably should have scheduled you in for another test, and if he isn't concerned about the 45, I think it's high time you find yourself a new doctor, dear!. Keep a log of your sugars for a week or two, and show them to your doctor!. If this is a normal trend for you, then you need to take some sort of action, probably starting with a diet change and getting yourself to an endocrinologist!. Best of luck to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you on insulin or taking diabetes medication!? You need to find a good diabetic doctor, usually an internist!. 45 is way way too low!. Do you test yourself in the morning before you eat anything!? Should be near normal!. But do get a different doctor, preferably an internist and have him get you a nutritionist to talk with about diabetic foods to eat!. Don't waste a moment on this, diabetes is nothing to fool around, you can die, go blind, or have other horrible effects if not controlled properly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd be more worried about the 45 than the 160!. That is severely hypoglycemic (low)!. The dizziness is a symptom of low blood sugar!. The 160 is high but your body is certainly producing insulin to get the low blood sugar!. Yes, I think you should see another doctor!. Endocrinology is the specialty I think you'd want to inquire with!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You were given an OGTT test to determine what your blood sugars were!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Most doctors are backing off that test due to what you described, it causes hypoglycemia (low blood sugars)!.!.!.If you have another test it should be a fasting blood sugar, all you have to do is fast for 8 hours and submit to a blood draw!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I cannot diagnose you with diabetes based on those numbers, though if you're consistantly getting above 100 with a fasting FSG, then you have impaired fasting glucose, which is a prediabetic state, which means you may develop diabetes later in life, but the only thing that's really done for IFG is diet modification, weight loss if you're overweight, and exercise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
